How to Find Your Exact Laptop Model Number (Dell, HP, Asus, Surface)

Your laptop skin needs to fit perfectly. Here is how to find the one piece of information that makes that possible.

Every laptop skin we make at Tella Skins is precision-cut for a specific device. Not a "15-inch laptop." Not a "Dell." Your exact model, down to the year and configuration. That is how we get the fit right on every edge, every port cutout, and every individual key on your keyboard.

But most people do not actually know their exact model number. They know the brand. Maybe the series name. Usually not the specific identifier that tells us exactly which chassis you have.

Here is how to find it, regardless of which laptop you own.

The Fastest Method (Works on Any Windows Laptop)

Press Windows + R on your keyboard. A small "Run" box will appear.

Type msinfo32 and press Enter.

A window called "System Information" will open. Look for System Model in the list. The value next to it is your laptop's model number.

That is the one we need. Copy it, paste it, or just type it into the model field at checkout.

Dell Laptops

Dell makes this relatively straightforward. Your model number usually looks something like XPS 13 9340 or Inspiron 15 3520. The series name (XPS, Inspiron, Latitude) combined with the four-digit number is what matters.

Where to find it:

On the bottom of your laptop, there is a white or silver sticker with a barcode. The model number is printed there. If the sticker has worn off, the msinfo32 method above will give you the same information.

You can also open a browser and go to support.dell.com. Dell will auto-detect your model if you allow it.

HP Laptops

HP naming is less intuitive. Your model might be listed as something like HP Spectre x360 14-ef0797nr or HP Envy x360 15-eu0013nr. That longer string with letters and numbers is your specific configuration.

Where to find it:

The bottom sticker is your first stop, same as Dell. Look for the product number (not the serial number). The product number starts with something like 14-ef or 15-eu.

Alternatively, open Settings > System > About on Windows 11. Your device name and model will be listed there.

Asus Laptops

Asus uses an internal model identifier that does not always match the marketing name. Your ZenBook 14 might actually be model UX3405MA. Your VivoBook might be X1504ZA. Both formats work for us, but the internal model number is more precise.

Where to find it:

Check the bottom of the laptop for a sticker that shows the model number starting with letters followed by numbers. It is usually right next to the serial number.

The msinfo32 method also works well for Asus. The System Model field will show the internal identifier.

Microsoft Surface

Surface devices are simpler because Microsoft uses consistent naming: Surface Laptop 5 13.5-inch, Surface Pro 11, Surface Laptop Go 3.

Where to find it:

Open Settings > System > About. Your device name will be listed clearly. For Surface devices, you can also visit account.microsoft.com/devices to see your registered devices with their full names.

The generation or edition matters. A Surface Laptop 4 has a different chassis than a Surface Laptop 5, so the skin dimensions differ.

MacBook

If you are on a MacBook, click the Apple menu in the top-left corner and select About This Mac. Your model name, year, and chip will be displayed. For example: MacBook Pro 14-inch, M3 Pro, 2023.

That is everything we need to cut your skin precisely.

Why This Matters

A generic "15-inch laptop skin" relies on you trimming the edges yourself. It will never align with your ports, your hinges, or your keyboard layout. The result looks like a sticker, not a skin.

When you give us your exact model, we cut for your exact device. Every edge wraps cleanly. Every key gets its own individual piece. Nothing needs trimming, adjusting, or guessing.

That is the difference between a skin that looks applied and one that looks like it belongs there.
